My name is Nicholas, 18 years old, Malaysian. In the year 1999, I was born in Singapore. When I was 7 years old, my family moved to Kuala Lumpur. I was very young at that time and didn’t know much, I left my childhood friends and came to a whole new country.
I started learning Malay, the national language of Malaysia when I started primary school. Fortunately, I caught up. When I graduated from primary school, my family moved to Petaling Jaya, which was nearer to my high school. You could say I left all my friends once again to a whole new environment. I had to make new friends and start all over again.
When I was 17, I told myself to go explore the world, be different, experience something new. Therefore, I applied to go for an exchange program for a year. Little did I realize I was doing the same thing I before, but that did not make it any much easier. Leaving everyone I knew to a new country and this time without my family beside me, but that’s the thrill of going on an exchange program isn’t it? Now, I’m 18, an exchange student from Malaysia in Germany.
If you ask me what exactly are my goals in this exchange year, I have no idea. I want to experience everything to the fullest and leave no regrets. I want to open my eyes and my mind to the world, make friends that would last forever and forge memories and value that will accompany me for the rest of my life.
Being an exchange student, I am often overwhelmed with different emotions and feelings. I needed a platform for me to channel these feelings. Therefore, I started writing this blog.
